“I just really love the process of working with words. I think about words a lot, and I love putting them together in a way that seems just right and that really communicates what I want to say.” — Eileen Berry
Eileen Berry has always had a deep love of reading and a passion for writing. Fast forward to today, Eileen shares her gift of being a writer with BJU Press and teaches writing for children and poetry writing university courses. Eileen sits down with Jenny to discuss how to ignite the love of writing flame in our young students.
Key Topics Covered:
Writing for children vs. writing for adults
Finding unique ideas for writing through various techniques
Understanding the process of what writing a book may look like
Celebrating the reward of writing
Eileen also shares about her upcoming projects, including a new biography for young readers.
As educators, we have a unique opportunity to encourage the development of writing skills in our young students. Eileen’s personal journey from a book-loving child reading in the nook of a tree branch to educating students of all ages on the power of writing exhibits the impact of nourishing young writers.
“I like to think of writing for children as writing in miniature … It’s a work for adults, but it’s written to scale for a child. So it needs to reflect that same level of craftsmanship and skill that a work for adults would have, but you’re limited in several ways. It’s got to be shorter. And you’re limited in your vocabulary that you can use.” —Eileen Berry
Every day in the classroom is YOUR day to impact and inspire through God’s power and grace working in you.

Welcome back to the Teacher Edition podcast! In Part Two of this conversation, Dr. Bruce Meyer discusses the prevalence of fear and anxiety among our students, specifically answering these important questions:
Is fear inherently sinful?
What’s the difference between fearful feelings and fearful thoughts?
When students are afraid, where can we lead them scripturally?
How do habits play into fears?
How did Jesus model overcoming fear?
As Part Two wraps up, Bruce reminds us, “Perfect love casts out fear,” encouraging teachers to model love and trust in their classrooms. His insights on maintaining faith through difficult circumstances and focusing on virtuous thoughts serve as valuable tools for teachers supporting students with anxiety. Remember — fear will come, and what we do with it makes all the difference. God can change our minds and replace fear with biblical truth!
Every day in the classroom is YOUR day to impact and inspire through God's power and grace working in you.
Go do what God has called you to do!
“I would encourage your teachers, just spend some time with Philippians 4:1-9, because it really is loaded with truth about how to handle fear and anxiety. To put fear off of you and to replace it with honest, truthful thinking that is virtuous, that is pure, that is correct thinking, that is worthy of praise.” — Dr. Bruce Meyer

"The harder the person resists the feelings, the worse they get .... All I'm doing is feeding that fear even more. Instead, I need to really shift my focus away." — Dr. Bruce Meyer

In this episode of the Teacher Edition podcast, host Jenny Copeland discusses with guest Jennifer Miller the intricacies of brain science and its critical implications for educators. With years of experience in both public and Christian education, Jennifer shares her insights on how understanding neuroscience can significantly impact teaching methods and student engagement.
Throughout this conversation, Jenny and Jennifer explore:
The fundamental role of the prefrontal cortex in learning and executive function
The impact of immediate gratification on the developing brain
Practical strategies educators can implement to foster better learning environments
Jennifer's journey has led her to an increased awareness of how God-given mechanisms, such as dopamine, play a crucial role in both motivation and learning. She emphasizes the need for educators to be purposeful with technology and to create environments that nurture rather than hijack students' natural learning processes.
"This isn't something that can be fixed overnight. We might not even be able to fix it in an entire year. Our goal as teachers should be to widen that gap between stimulus and the dopamine hit, promoting a more sustainable form of engagement and learning." —Jennifer Miller
By understanding and applying brain science, educators can make meaningful connections with their students, fostering an environment of anticipation and motivation that aligns with God's design for human thriving. Jennifer’s insights remind us that teaching is not just about imparting knowledge but also about nurturing the whole student through God's grace.
